Legends on the Niagra Golf Course
Legends on the Niagra is part of a Niagra Parks Commission (NPC) complex of three courses (Usshers Creek, Battlefield and Chippawa). The site is historically significant as the scene for the Battle of Chippawa during the War of 1812 and is maintained as a National Historic Site for public access. I played Ussher's Creek, which was designed by Thomas McBroom. This is a great design from a great architect. The course has been well maintained and administered by its management. The NPC has invested heavily in golf to attract tourists to the Niagra area. Current economic conditions have resulted in a low tourist turn-out, however. This means that course fees are atypically low. I paid less than $80 including cart for a round there. My partners were Brian Walker and his son Kyle. They were course veterans and played a great role in guiding me around Ussher's Creek. Practice Facilities The NPC incorporated a nice practice facility to support its three courses at Legends. With 45 holes in play (Ussher's-18, Battlefield-18, Chippawa-9) golf instruction is planned as an integrated part of the overall golf experience. There is a large oval driving range that permit golfers to practice "game situations" in that they can hit from fairway bunkers, fairway grass, rough from the firing line tee boxes set up around the circle. Targets are measured from each of six hitting locations around the oval. Short game chipping greens with flags and green side bunkers are also available. There is also a two-bay indoor teaching facility where instructors can provide private lessons supported by video and launch monitor equipment. Sample images of Legends on the Niagra.
