Golf Scholarships

Golf Scholarships

For junior and elite golfers who wish to continue there golf careers beyond high school and into college, scholarships afford an attractive means of gaining entry and financial assistance to advanced golf and academic opportunities.

To be successful, students, parents and coaches must conform to rigourous guidelines covering recruitment, eligibility, academic entrance, financial and athletic requirements. It is an intricate process and parties to it are well advised to start early and educate themselves thoroughly about the nuances of this game within a game.

Swing Video Component

Players who seek admission to a school or programme can send letters of intent to campuses in order to alert coaches of their interest. To stand out, players should present themselves through a resume that outlines their "golf profile" in terms of experience, tournament success, awards, etc. A vital part of their resume is a video of their current golf swing. Coaches must screen prospective candidates and a video offers an excellent introduction to an educated eye as substitute for a personal visit.

The American Junior Golf Association provides the following guideline to swing video development:

AJGA Swing Video

The AJGA Video assists coaches in recruiting by evaluating AJGA members' golf swings via the Internet. AJGA members and AJGA College Coaching members will have access to these swings on the AJGA website. Members can send in a video following the guidelines below.

Swing Video Tape Instructions

Please follow these guidelines when sending in a swing video: Swings should be taped from two views: behind and to the side of the junior. The junior should hit a ball, not just swing through the air. The junior should use a 5-iron. Include the entire junior's body in the frame when shooting their swing. The AJGA can take swing videos in QuickTime, VHS, VHS-C or mini-DV format.
