Golf Fitness

Golf fitness has exploded since 1997 when Tiger Woods arrived on the professional golf scene. At least, he popularized the approach to fitness. Golf is a sport and golfers are athletes.

Before Tiger Woods, it was popular common to here that a workout program would make your body 'too tight', that being muscle bound would actually work against smooth swing development.

I credit Tiger with exploding that myth. Now, the PGA Tour has fitness trailers, health programs and trainers at every tournament.

A fit golfer is a better golfer. Your body is an integral part of the golf swing. Fitness programs involve exercise, nutrition and mental development. Improving your fitness level will contribute to all phases of your golf game. You will tire less easily, make fewer bad swings, and fewer mental mistakes than a golfer who is less fit. Tiger still loses to golfers who are less fit than him, but his victory percentage speaks for itself.

Tiger Woods Golf Fitness

Tiger Woods' fitness definitely contributes to his dominance on the PGA Tour. Tiger's disciplined attitude toward working out is well known, but details on his program are hard to find. For years, Tiger has kept it secret -- a strategic part of his success. In a recent article in Men's Fitness Magazine, Woods gave out some details. I've summarized some of the program details here.

Key Aspects of Fitness Development

General fitness programs are good for everyone. They contribute to better play in any sport, any active lifestyle and improve your overall well being.

Golf specific training is essential for any competitive golfer in order to optimize performance on the links. A golf workout program will focus on movements and muscles that are specifically involved in the sport. This means your workouts are going to be more efficient at contributing to game improvement.
